Chora was the capital of Kalymnos for several centuries, before Pothia. It is found in near distance by the current capital, about 3,5 kilometres.

Chora or Chorio (Village) as the local call it, is an important historical locality. There, in the church of Virgin Mary the Keharitomeni was raised the Greek Flag in 1948 that meant the union of Kalymnos with Greece.

Apart from the old Metropolitan Church of the island, deserves a visit the Byzantine Castle of Pera in the hill very near of Chora.
